The history of eurythmy
Eurythmy was created out of the spiritual sources of anthroposophy by Rudolf Steiner in 1911.
The name eurythmy comes from ancient Greek and means "harmonious movement". We speak of two kinds of eurythmy, visible song - tone eurythmy - and visible speech-- speech eurythmy. In the beginning of the 1920s the first eurythmy training began in Stuttgart. Some years later trainings began at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland (the centre for anthroposophy), Vienna, Berlin, and London. Today there are about 20 trainings around the world in Europe, the United States, Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Israel, Russia and South Africa. Eurythmy training takes four years.
